Mrs. Melgar is the Senior Paralegal of Yacub Law Offices in Woodbridge, VA. She is our lead Paralegal in preparing affirmative cases with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of State/National Visa Center, as well as assisting attorneys with defensive cases for individuals detained or in removal proceedings.
Her assistance involves preparing a variety of cases, such as family petitions, waivers, and consular processing as well as asylum and cancellation of removal among other reliefs. Prior to joining our team, she worked in the private immigration law firm as a Bilingual Immigration Paralegal for several years providing the same assistance as with Yacub Law Offices.
She also worked in the nonprofit field where she coordinated a project of 23 pro bono attorneys to assist individuals without representation in the Charlotte, NC Immigration Court for Respondents to obtain pro bono legal advice and information on their rights in the immigration process.
In the DC metropolitan area, she formerly provided legal and social assistance to Unaccompanied Minors and their Sponsors involving Home Studies while Unaccompanied Minors in immigration detention, Post Release Social Services after minors released from immigration detention, and assistance to a Pro Bono Legal Services program. Lastly, she provided Legal Orientations to Unaccompanied Minors and their Sponsors in the Arlington, VA Immigration Court and other sites throughout the DC metropolitan area.
Mrs. Melgar, has accrued hundreds of hours in immigration specialist training after earning her Post-Baccalaureate Paralegal Technology Degree, an ABA approved legal program taught by Attorneys at Law from Central Piedmont Community College.
Concurrently with her Paralegal studies, she completed a B.A. from Devry University, where she transferred most of her credits from her initial ABA approved Legal Office Technology certification taught by Attorneys at Law from Nassau Community College following her completion of a Liberal of Arts Associate degree.
Mrs. Melgar’s passion in immigration legal work is devoted after her success with Pro Se family-based petitions as the first U.S. Citizen in her family which resulted in her own family reunification with her parents and siblings in the U.S. after 10 years of separation. Now, she is very excited to advocate and assist other immigrant families at the Yacub Law Offices.
